Westinghouse’s vision is to be the first to innovate the next technology, practice or solution that helps us help customers generate safer, cleaner, more reliable energy for more people and a better planet.  The research experience will take place at the Churchill location near Pittsburgh, PA.  The teacher will have the opportunity to collaborate with several nuclear engineers and engage in different aspects of secure projects occurring during the summer.

  • Nuclear Engineering Research Experience:  June 19 - July 28, 2017
  • Weekly Professional Development Workshops in Pittsburgh, PA:  June 19-July 28, 2017
  • REU/RET Symposium at Penn State University Park, PA:  August 3, 2017
  • Two Academic Year Professional Development workshops in Pittsburgh, PA:  AY 2017-2018

Eligibility:

  • Must be a secondary education teacher who teaches science, technology, engineering, and math content with at least 3 years full time teaching experience
  • Must be committed to implementing a classroom research project (CLRP) during the 2017-2018 academic school year
  • Must be a teacher serving students from culturally diverse, economically disadvantaged Pennsylvania communities within or surrounding the greater Pittsburgh Metropolitan Area

Benefits:

  • $5,000 at the conclusion of the Australia research experience and approved Classroom Research Project (CLRP) submission
  • $1,500 at the conclusion of the CLRP and Impact Report
  • 1 PSU Graduate Credit
  • Support to implement CLRP
