Exploring the Highs and Lows of Landscapes: Demystifying Topographic Maps

Want to learn more about Earth’s geographic features? The activities found in this blue box focus on landscapes, their origin and how to interpret landforms found on topographic maps by using readily available materials, such as play-dough, kinetic sand, line levels, compasses, tape measures, etc. By using these materials and activities, students get a better understanding of contour lines and landscapes illustrated on topographic maps. The basic principles of orienteering by using topographic maps are also covered in this Blue Box.
