Details

Have you wanted to participate in KidWind? Or need a refresher of the fundamentals of the KidWind Challenge? In this workshop you will engage in activities that will introduce you to the science behind wind energy while putting easy-to-use tools in your hands to prepare students to compete in the KidWind Challenge. Activities include designing turbine blades, building a wind turbine, testing the power output, and refining the turbine design to generate the most power. These investigations are powerful vehicles to expose students to “difficult-to-hold-onto” concepts like energy conversion and transfer, electricity generation, and our energy future. You will leave this workshop with a Vernier KidWind Basic kit and the knowledge, skills, and resources needed to introduce students to wind energy concepts.

New this year, we are regionalizing!

You will have to attend a regional competition and qualify to compete at the PA KidWind Competition at University Park. There will be three regional competitions. You can choose which regional you would like attend. Regionals will be held at the following locations:

  • Penn State Greater Allegheny
  • Penn State Hazelton
  • The Centre County Region (Location T.B.D.)
